The famous Mahia Golf Club is located on the beachfront of Mahia Beach. The course was planned by a professional, but the hard yard was done by the club members themselves, who chipped away at blackberry, loaned machinery and gave their time to get the course up and running. It is now commonly referred to "as the best nine hole course around". The course (5812 metres over 18 holes) is nestled among natural sand dunes, with elevated tees and dog legs.
