The Mahia Peninsula scenic walk offers visitors excellent views of the Wairoa coast & reserve.

This reserve is located 7 km south of Mahia Beach up the narrow and winding Kinikini Road A 3.5 km loop track walks you through one of the best examples of semi coastal forest on the North Island east coast.

Tawa and kohekohe forest is varied with stands of nikau, rimu, rewarewa and a fern flanked stream.

Allow 2 hrs 30 mins to walk this track and take your lunch with you as a picnic area is located part way along the track

Another spectacular walk is up the iconic Mokotahi Hill. It's a 20min climb to the top, and you have the best sea views of Mahia Beach ever... you can view far south to Napier and north to Gisborne.
